It is very telling when an avowed Conservative like Ross Douthat of the New York Times said in effect that the Republican Party had decided to commit murder and suicide, but opted to drop the murder part and to just "slash their wrists."
As much as I have tried to understand it, I cannot put it any more succinctly.
